Have you recently received dental care from a dentist in Renton? If so, your dentist may have taken what are known as bitewing X-rays. Bitewing X-rays are films taken by a dentist to determine if you have cavities or tooth decay between your teeth.
Bitewing X-rays are important because they can detect cavities before there are even any signs of toothache. While cavities on the surface of teeth can be detected by a dentist during a routine teeth cleaning using dental instruments, only bitewing X-rays can detect decay between the teeth that is otherwise invisible to the naked eye. Bitewing X-rays are also used in dentistry for children; however, a family dentist takes only two X-rays as opposed to four for adults.
